GTCR announced on April 30, 2026 that it has formed Avelis Holdings in partnership with data and analytics executive Brian Crotty.

The new platform will pursue acquisitions to create a subscription-based data and analytics business serving global commodity and industrial markets.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Avelis Holdings intends to build a provider of benchmarking data, analytics and mission-critical intelligence for those sectors.

Mr.

Crotty has been named chief executive officer.

He previously led Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), where he oversaw its expansion from a small information provider into a global data, analytics and software platform.

OPIS was sold to IHS Markit in 2016, and Mr.

Crotty later managed the carveout and sale of energy assets including OPIS to Dow Jones in 2022 during the S&P Global–IHS Markit merger.

GTCR is backing the effort through its Leaders Strategy, an approach in which the firm partners with executives to identify, acquire and scale companies.

Mark Anderson, a managing director at GTCR, said the landscape for commodity and industrial benchmarking data remains highly fragmented.

The firm has invested more than $35 billion in about 300 companies since its founding in 1980 and manages roughly $50 billion in equity capital.
